Apex Trader Funding 2026 Drawdown Overview: What Changed?
Historically, Apex Trader Funding was famous—and notorious—for its strict real-time intraday trailing threshold that trailed every unrealized open-equity tick upward. Beginning March 1, 2026, Apex introduced a two-track product lineup:
- New EOD (End-of-Day) Accounts: The trailing threshold only recalculates at the market close based on your closed end-of-day balance, paired with a fixed Daily Loss Limit (DLL) that pauses trading for the session if hit.
- Intraday Trailing Accounts: The classic real-time trailing threshold that follows your highest open unrealized equity peak tick-by-tick until locked at the safety net on a Performance Account.
| Account Size | Profit Target | Trailing Threshold (Max Loss) | PA Safety Net Floor (Drawdown + $100) | Max Contracts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $25,000 Account | $1,500 | $1,500 | $26,600 | 4 Minis (40 Micros) |
| $50,000 Account | $3,000 | $2,500 | $52,600 | 10 Minis (100 Micros) |
| $100,000 Account | $6,000 | $3,000 | $103,100 | 14 Minis (140 Micros) |
| $150,000 Account | $9,000 | $5,000 | $155,100 | 17 Minis (170 Micros) |
| $250,000 Account | $15,000 | $6,500 | $256,600 | 27 Minis (270 Micros) |
| $300,000 Account | $20,000 | $7,500 | $307,600 | 35 Minis (350 Micros) |

How Apex's Intraday Trailing Threshold Traps Unclosed Winners
If you choose an Intraday Trailing evaluation at Apex, your liquidation threshold follows your highest unrealized open trade equity (including commissions) in real time:
Worked Example on a $50,000 Apex Intraday Account ($2,500 Threshold)
- Start of Account: Balance = $50,000; liquidation threshold = $47,500 ($50,000 - $2,500).
- Open Trade Spike: You enter 3 NQ contracts and your open trade spikes to +$2,000 unrealized profit (peak open equity = $52,000). Your liquidation threshold immediately trails up to $49,500 ($52,000 - $2,500).
- Pullback to Breakeven: You do not take profit at +$2,000; price reverses and stops you out at breakeven ($50,000 closed balance).
- Shrunken Buffer: Even though your closed balance is still $50,000, your liquidation threshold stays at $49,500—leaving you with only $500 of remaining drawdown room instead of $2,500!
By contrast, on Apex's 2026 EOD Accounts, that intraday spike to $52,000 does not move the threshold during the session; only your closed balance at the end of the day updates the EOD threshold. You can model both formulas in our Interactive Drawdown Calculator.
Performance Account (PA) Rules: The Safety Net, 5:1 Risk Ratio & 6-Payout Cap
Once you pass an Apex evaluation and activate a Performance Account (PA), four critical risk and payout rules govern your account:
- Trailing Stops at Starting Balance + $100: On a $50,000 PA ($2,500 threshold), once your peak balance/equity reaches $52,600, your liquidation threshold locks permanently at $50,100 (initial balance + $100) and stops trailing higher.
- The Mandatory Safety Net ($52,600 on $50K): To request a payout on a $50,000 PA, you must maintain a Safety Net equal to your drawdown amount plus $100 ($2,600 above $50,000, or $52,600) for the life of the PA. For example, to withdraw the minimum $500 payout on a $50K PA while respecting the safety net rules, your balance must reach at least $52,600 (and withdrawals above the $500 minimum cannot reduce the remaining balance below $52,600).
- 50% Consistency Rule & 5 Qualifying Days: To request a PA payout, you need at least 5 qualifying profit days meeting the daily minimum profit threshold, and your single highest profit day cannot exceed 50% of your total net profit since the last payout.
- 5:1 Risk-to-Reward & 30% Negative P&L Rule: Apex prohibits risking more than a 5:1 stop-loss-to-profit-target ratio on trades or allowing an open trade's unrealized negative P&L to exceed 30% of your account's profit buffer (50% once your account buffer is doubled).
- Maximum 6 Payouts per New PA: Under the March 2026 terms, each new PA is capped at 6 approved payouts, after which that PA closes.

Apex Trader Funding Drawdown Rules: Your Questions Answered
Does Apex Trader Funding still use intraday trailing drawdown in 2026?
Apex offers both options in 2026: its new EOD (End-of-Day) accounts update the drawdown threshold only at market close, while its Intraday Trailing accounts continue to trail unrealized open equity peaks in real time.
What is the Safety Net rule on an Apex Performance Account (PA)?
The Safety Net equals your account's trailing drawdown amount plus $100 (for example, $2,600 on a $50,000 PA, meaning a balance of $52,600). Under Apex's 2026 rules, the Safety Net stays in effect for the life of the PA rather than expiring after your third payout.
When does the Apex trailing threshold stop moving on a funded PA?
On a Performance Account, the trailing liquidation threshold stops moving once it reaches your initial starting balance plus $100 (for example, $50,100 on a $50,000 PA once your peak balance reaches $52,600).
What is Apex's 30% negative P&L rule on funded accounts?
On a Performance Account, your open unrealized loss on a trade cannot exceed 30% of your start-of-day profit balance (or 30% of the initial trailing threshold on a new account). Once your profit cushion doubles the initial safety net, that allowance increases to 50%.
