Retail forex in Indonesia has traditionally been supervised by Bappebti, the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency under the Ministry of Trade. Locally licensed brokers trade through Indonesian futures exchanges. Under the P2SK Law (Law 4/2023), supervision of crypto assets and some financial derivatives moved from Bappebti to OJK and Bank Indonesia, starting 10 January 2025. So check both the Bappebti and OJK registers before choosing a broker. Offshore brokers that accept Indonesians, such as HFM and Vantage, are not licensed by Bappebti or OJK.
Who Regulates What
| Area | Supervisor (as of 2026) |
|---|---|
| Commodity futures brokers and exchanges | Bappebti |
| Crypto assets and digital financial assets | OJK (since 10 Jan 2025) |
| Certain financial derivatives (e.g. on securities) | OJK |
| Money-market and FX market derivatives | Bank Indonesia |
The transfer is being phased in under the P2SK Law. Confirm the current status of any broker with the regulators themselves.

How to Check a Broker in Indonesia
- Search the broker's PT name on the Bappebti list of licensed futures brokers (pialang berjangka).
- Check the OJK licensed-entity search and OJK's investment alert (Satgas PASTI) warnings.
- Make sure the broker belongs to a local exchange (JFX or ICDX) and a clearing house.
- Be wary of brokers asking you to deposit to personal accounts.
Offshore Brokers and Indonesian Residents
| Broker | Indonesia status (from our guides) |
|---|---|
| HFM | Accepts Indonesians through an offshore entity; no Bappebti or OJK registration (HFM Indonesia) |
| Vantage | Accepts Indonesians offshore; not licensed by Bappebti (Vantage Indonesia) |
Using an offshore broker means no local protection or dispute route.
Practical Checklist for Indonesian Traders
- Ask the broker for its PT company name and licence number.
- Search it on the Bappebti or OJK site, not on a link the broker sends you.
- Check that deposits go to a segregated account in the company's name at an Indonesian bank, never to a personal account.
- Search the OJK / Satgas PASTI warning list for the brand.
Why Offshore Brands Are Risky Here
Global brands such as HFM and Vantage are not Bappebti-licensed for Indonesian retail clients. If something goes wrong you cannot complain to an Indonesian regulator, and local banks may block payments to unlicensed platforms. Indonesian authorities have repeatedly blocked unlicensed trading websites and apps.
