A forex introducing broker (IB) is a person or company that refers traders to a broker and gets paid on those clients' trading, usually a rebate per lot traded or a share of the spread and commission revenue. The IB doesn't hold client money or execute trades. The broker does that under its own licence. In many countries, marketing leveraged CFDs and receiving trading-linked pay is itself a regulated activity. IBs therefore need to check local rules, and traders should know that an IB is paid more when they trade more.
How IBs Get Paid
| Model | How it works | Incentive effect |
|---|---|---|
| Rebate per lot | Fixed $ per standard lot the client trades | Paid on volume, whether the client wins or loses |
| Revenue share | % of spread/commission the broker earns from the client | Same as above |
| CPA (cost per acquisition) | One-off fee for a funded, active client | Paid for sign-up and first deposit |
| Hybrid | CPA plus a smaller rebate | Mixed |
| Multi-tier | IB also earns on sub-IBs they recruit | Can resemble network marketing |
Some brokers let the IB pass part of the rebate back to clients as "cashback", which lowers the client's effective cost.

What Regulated IBs Must Do
The details depend on the country, but tier-1 regulators generally expect:
- Authorisation or appointment (as an appointed representative or tied agent, or a separate licence) before promoting CFDs.
- Fair, clear marketing with the standard risk warning and no promises of profit.
- Disclosure of the payment relationship with the broker.
- No managing client accounts or handling client money without the right licence.
In several countries, people offering "account management" or signals while collecting IB pay are a common source of complaints. Regulators' alert lists, including Malaysia's SC and India's RBI lists, contain many such groups.
If You're a Trader Referred by an IB
- Ask whether the person is paid per lot you trade. Most are.
- Be wary of encouragement to trade more often, use higher leverage or chase bonuses.
- Never give an IB your trading password or client-area login.
- Check the broker and entity yourself, rather than relying on the IB's description.
If You Want to Become an IB
Read the broker's IB agreement: payment model, payment schedule, clawback rules, prohibited marketing and the countries where you may promote. Then check your own country's rules on financial promotion. Pick brokers whose regulation and withdrawal record you are comfortable putting your name behind. Our broker reviews (Vantage, Exness, HFM, PU Prime, JustMarkets) are a starting point.

Forex Introducing Broker: Your Questions Answered
How much do forex IBs earn?
It depends on the program: a fixed rebate per lot, a revenue share, or a CPA per funded client. Terms vary by broker and region.
Do I need a licence to be an IB?
In many countries promoting leveraged CFDs for payment is regulated. Check your local financial-promotion rules before starting.
Is an IB the same as a broker?
No. The broker holds client money and executes trades under its licence; the IB only refers clients.
