The MetaTrader 5 WebTerminal is the browser version of MT5. It runs in Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox on Windows, macOS, Linux or ChromeOS, with nothing to install. You log in with the same account number, trading password and server as desktop MT5. It covers everyday trading: charts, market and pending orders, stop-loss/take-profit and market depth. It can't run Expert Advisors or the strategy tester, so automated traders still need the desktop version.
WebTerminal vs Desktop MT5
| Feature | WebTerminal | Desktop MT5 |
|---|---|---|
| Install needed | No (browser) | Yes |
| Operating systems | Any with a modern browser | Windows; macOS via installer |
| Timeframes | 21 (per broker pages) | 21 |
| Built-in indicators | Fewer (JustMarkets lists 38) | 80+ |
| Expert Advisors / scripts | No | Yes (MQL5) |
| Strategy tester | No | Yes |
| Market depth | Yes | Yes |
| Economic calendar | Available on some broker web terminals | Yes |
Broker pages publish slightly different feature lists for their own web terminals, so check the one you'll actually use.

How to Log In From a Browser
- Use your broker's WebTerminal link, usually found under "Platforms" or in the client area, or the MetaQuotes web platform.
- Choose the correct server. Some brokers run several (JustMarkets lists MT5 Live, Live2, Demo and Demo2).
- Enter the account number and trading password, and choose whether the browser should remember you.
If the login fails, the fixes are the same as for desktop: wrong server, MT4 account on MT5, or client-area password instead of trading password. See the MetaTrader 5 login guide.
When the WebTerminal Makes Sense
- You're on a work or shared computer where you can't install software.
- You use Linux or a Chromebook.
- You want quick access to check or close positions while away from your main setup.
Use the desktop terminal if you rely on custom indicators, run EAs, or need to backtest. Use the mobile app for alerts and quick trade changes.
Security on Shared Computers
Don't save your password in a browser you don't own, and log out completely when you finish. The WebTerminal can place and close trades, but it can't withdraw money. Withdrawals happen in the broker's client area, which should be protected with its own password and, ideally, two-factor authentication.
Getting an MT5 Account
The WebTerminal only works once you have an MT5 account with a broker. Costs, leverage and protections depend on the broker and the entity that holds your account. Compare them in our MT5 broker comparison, and see the MT5 download guide if you'd rather install the full desktop version.

MT5 Web Terminal: Your Questions Answered
Can I run Expert Advisors in the MT5 WebTerminal?
No. EAs, scripts and the strategy tester need the desktop terminal. The WebTerminal is for manual trading and analysis.
Is the MT5 web version safe?
It connects to your broker over an encrypted connection. The main risks are shared computers and saved passwords — log out fully and don't store credentials on devices you don't own.
Does the WebTerminal work on Linux and Chromebook?
Yes. It runs in any modern browser, which makes it the simplest option on Linux and ChromeOS.
